Principal Engineer

Position Overview

  • Experience and ability to act as the technical team leader for up to 10 RF engineers in the design, planning and optimization of wireless networks
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance in all aspects of network design
  • Provide radio frequency design of wireless systems
  • Perform RF propagation modeling and prediction
  • Perform interference analysis and performance recommendations
  • Specify equipment layout design for new sites
  • Evaluate and specify ancillary equipment needed for new builds

Essential Job Function

  • Design and plan radio communication systems
  • Manage large-scale projects and system buildouts
  • Provide valued input to help guide the selection of future technologies
  • Participate in zoning hearings as RF subject matter expert in support of the site development team
  • Perform network design for new sites using RF propagation and prediction tools
  • Cell site equipment layout
  • BSS parameter audits and recommendations
  • Oversee equipment installation
  • Specify ancillary equipment such as antennas and lines
  • Participate in candidate site walks and make recommendations for new site locations from an RF perspective
  • Perform system drive test, data collection and analysis
  • Analyze system parameters and make recommendations for KPI improvement
  • Monitor and report system statistics
  • Mobile drive data testing
  • Microwave path design

Position Qualifications

  • BS / MS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 6+ years industry experience
  • Experienced with infrastructure equipment from multiple vendors:  Lucent, Nortel, Motorola, Nokia, Ericsson or others
  • Technical expertise in one or more of the commonly used wireless communications technologies:  CDMA, GSM
  • Expert in one or more of the latest data technologies:  EV-DO, UMTS, HSDPA
  • Solid understanding of emerging 4G technologies WiMax and LTE
  • Experience with commercially-available drive test data collection and analysis tools such as Agilent, X-Tel and Actix
  • Experience with network design software such as CelPlan, TEMS, or Planet
  • Experience with Microsoft office tools a must
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel

Working Conditions

The Principal Engineer will spend the majority of their time in an office environment.
